Beauty FAQ | Would you be willing to give up your morning coffee to keep your skin looking youthful?

I actually get so annoyed when people try and tell me that coffee is bad for my skin – it’s like, “if you’re going to tell me to cut coffee out of my diet in an effort to save my skin, you better get that friggin’ cigarette out of your mouth before I burn your face with it”, y’dig? I’m in the business of helping people take care of their skin, and needless to say – I do my research…how about I shed some light on this myth?

CoffeeVS.Skin

OK, so it turns out that coffee is not only not bad for your skin – it’s actually good for it (suck that, haters)! There are a surprising amount of antioxidants housed in coffee beans – that’s why you’ve probably seen a myriad of beauty products actually infused with coffee (slimming creams, eye serums – y’know…)! It’s like anything else though – don’t overdo it! Having a cup or two is totally fine – when you have too much though you’ll actually dehydrate the skin and contribute to a more aged appearance. Another thing to keep in mind for those of you who suffer from eczema (or any other underlying skin disease, really) – you can actually stimulate flare-ups by drinking too much coffee – so have your cup in the morning, but don’t be a glutton (duh)!

  1. Good one & well written! :) I love my coffee as well and hate it when I get told it’s bad for my skin as I am prone to acne breakouts… after all, if I’m not fired up with my daily dose, I just can’t function! lol ;)

  2. Good to know – I have a tendency to over-do it with coffee, but it’s good to know that cutting back is needed not cutting it out completely! Thanks, Jake!

  3. Wow! People have told you that coffee is bad for your skin? I’ve never heard that! People be crazy. I’m definitely not giving up my two cups in the morning, that’s for sure! :]

    • Two cups in the morning? Wow, I think I’d die – I have one cup and I’m bouncing off the walls (I’m pretty crazy without caffeine coursing through my veins)…

  4. I’ve never heard that about coffee! I drink quite a lot and my skin’s fine (or at least it looks fine, lol). If it’s a matter of dehydration, I wonder if you can counter that with just drinking water! Hehe.

  5. Hi Jake this is really interesting. I love coffee so am glad to see it doesn’t hurt (!) but I find that I have to drink decaf most of the time, as full strength can upset aspects of the nervous system (beyond the skin – for me the gastrointestinal tract). I hope you are well! :)
