Wellness | Do you have any idea what happens when you don’t get your beauty sleep?

Beauty Sleep    I know all too well that when I don’t get my beauty sleep – well, no amount of makeup is going to hide the fact that I’m tired. The odds of someone saying something like “did you – uh, go out partying last night?” are incredibly high, too (ugh) – let’s talk about the science behind why being tired and stressed makes us look less beautiful, shall we?

Stress has the power to lessen your skin’s ability to protect itself – and actually leads to a reduction in healthy collagen (what keeps the skin looking youthful). Stress also lessens the amount of melanin pigments in the skin – ruining the look of your healthy complexion (ever wonder why you look so ghastly when you’re sick?)! That’s not even it though – when your body isn’t able to recover through sleep, dark under-eye circles start to creep in – and the water in our bodies is redistributed under the eyes – causing unsightly under-eye bags…

Now, I’m sure you’ve heard a thousand times that a lack of sleep can age you – but here’s another friendly reminder…as if a wrinkle on your face wasn’t bad enough – they also show up in your arteries, which can lead to other health problems later on. Not to mention the fact that when you’re stressed or tired, your cells act 10-15 years older than they actually are – so even if you’re only 20, you could end up looking 35 (I was dating someone like this – it wasn’t pretty)!

So rest up – your looks are worth it!
