Health | VitaCoco; is coconut water really the best hydration on the market right now?

I have my friend Anthony to blame for getting me into the habit of drinking coconut water on my workout days, but you know me…I’ve been trying it out for a week and I just had to get some research done! Coconut water is the fluid that’s found in the cavity of a younger coconut when you crack it open. It contains no fat, is very low in calories (about 50 calories for one cup; most of them coming from natural sugars) and also contains a fair amount of minerals like potassium, magnesium and calcium. The first thing you’ll probably learn about coconut water is that it has more potassium than a banana! Let’s break down some of the facts though…

VitaCoco Natural Coconut Water

  • Contains potassium, magnesium and calcium which help to replenish the body during training and prevent cramping.
  • Helps to promote heart and kidney health; potassium helps to reduce the risk of stroke, hypertension and kidney stones!
  • Helps to maintain a high level of endurance during training.
  • 100% natural and the best hangover cure I’ve ever tried!

My personal experience with coconut water is that it has been the most refreshing drink I’ve ever tried; and whether it’s psychological or not, I feel like I absorb coconut water better than regular water…I just feel properly hydrated! Not only that, because coconut water helps your cells hold on to water it’s also incredibly beneficial for the health of your skin, hair and nails! Let’s be honest though, people who are eating the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables get about twice the recommended intake of potassium on average…and one of the great things about getting potassium from your fruits and vegetables instead of coconut water is that you’ll also get fibre and a myriad of other amazing nutrients. I’m not saying that it’s bad for you, just make sure that if you’re including it into your diet that you’re accounting for the sugars and calories it adds into the mix!

For my party people! - Potassium, magnesium and calcium are three of the major electrolytes that are lost during a night of heavy drinking. Try to drink coconut water before and after a night of binge drinking…trust me; no hangover! I like to fill up a rocks glass half full with coconut water and add in equal parts of rum and blue curacao…that way I’m getting it while I’m drinking too!
